The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) organized a workshop titled “Escalating Cyber Attacks: Public Awareness and Safety Approaches” on 19 November 2025. The session aimed to educate students about the increasing risks in the digital world and equip them with practical strategies to stay safe online.

The session was conducted by Mrs. Manju Mehra, a Cyber Crime Intervention Officer and Certified Cyber Criminologist. With her extensive experience in cybercrime handling and investigation, she provided real-world insights into how cyber threats evolve and how individuals can protect themselves.

The workshop was exclusively organized for 3rd-semester students of the Data Science department. A large number of students attended and actively participated in the session.

    • Common types of cyber threats such as phishing, identity theft, malware, ransomware, and online fraud.

    • Case studies of recent cyber incidents to illustrate attacker methods.

    • Strong password management and multi-factor authentication.

    • Guidelines to reduce digital footprint and control online presence.

  • Cyber Laws & Reporting

    • Overview of Indian cyber laws and the IT Act.

    • Steps to report cybercrimes through official portals like cybercrime.gov.in.

  • Preventive Strategies

    • Importance of cyber hygiene.

    • Using antivirus, firewalls, VPNs, and secure networks.

    • Being cautious on social media and public Wi-Fi.

The session included a Q&A segment, where students asked questions regarding password safety, fraud prevention, and reporting procedures. The resource person provided clear and practical advice.

The workshop was highly informative and enhanced students’ awareness about the threats prevalent in cyberspace. It emphasized the importance of being vigilant and adopting safe digital practices, equipping students with valuable knowledge to protect themselves in an increasingly interconnected world.
