SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS

Workshop on Getting Started with Databricks for Data Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) organized a workshop titled “Getting Started with Databricks for Data Engineering” on 17th March 2026 for 6th semester students. The session was delivered by Mr. Abhijith Saralaya, Founder and Director of SMAG‑J Enterprises. He began by emphasizing the growing importance of modern data engineering in today’s data‑driven world. Mr. Abhijith explained how organizations manage large datasets and how platforms like Databricks simplify big data processing and analytics. He introduced the core features of Databricks and highlighted its integration with Apache Spark for efficient large‑scale data computation.

The workshop demonstrated how Databricks enables collaborative development through notebooks, data pipelines, and cloud‑based tools. He discussed real‑world data engineering applications across e‑commerce, finance, healthcare, and supply chain domains. Students learned how structured and unstructured data can be transformed into meaningful insights using proper processing and storage techniques. The session also covered industry expectations, essential technical skills, and emerging career opportunities in data engineering.

Mr. Abhijith shared practical experiences illustrating how companies leverage modern data platforms for scalable solutions. An interactive Q&A allowed students to clarify concepts related to Databricks and project ideas in data engineering. Overall, the workshop offered valuable exposure to fundamental data engineering concepts and motivated students to build strong, industry‑relevant technical skills.
