The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) organized a TEDx Talk titled “Through the Eyes of an Engineer” on 16 April 2026 for 6th semester students.
The talk was delivered by Mr. Grady Hillhouse, a well-known civil engineer, educator, and communicator. The session was highly informative and inspiring, highlighting how engineers perceive and understand the world differently.
The speaker explained that engineers approach real-life problems with creativity, logic, and innovation. The central theme emphasized that engineers view everyday structures such as roads, bridges, buildings, and machines as systems and design processes rather than ordinary objects. Mr. Hillhouse stated that engineering goes beyond construction and technology and focuses on improving human life. He highlighted the curiosity-driven and problem-solving mindset that defines engineers.
The talk stressed the responsibility engineers carry as their work directly impacts public safety, the environment, and quality of life. Ethical decision-making and careful planning were emphasized as essential aspects of engineering practice. The session helped students recognize the presence of engineering in all aspects of daily life. It encouraged students to observe their surroundings with analytical curiosity and appreciation. Overall, the TEDx talk motivated students to develop innovation, analytical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the role of engineers in society.
