TEDx Talk - Leadership: How to be Confident

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) at New Horizon College of Engineering organized a TEDx Talk titled “Leadership: How to be Confident” on 13 March 2026 for 6th‑semester students. The session was led by Ms. Montana Von Fliss, an executive speech and presentation coach known for her expertise in communication and leadership. She explained that confidence is not always innate but a skill that can be strengthened through deliberate effort.

The talk highlighted how conscious choices in body language, voice, and delivery help individuals appear confident even when they may feel nervous internally. Students learned practical techniques such as maintaining balanced speaking energy, using purposeful pauses, and adopting a strong posture to project confidence. The speaker emphasized that both physical and mental factors shape confident behavior.

She encouraged students to engage in purposeful practice, focusing on improving one aspect of communication at a time. A key theme of the session was the impact of mindset and positive self-talk in managing fear and self-doubt. Ms. Von Fliss noted that confidence does not require eliminating nervousness but performing effectively despite it.

The event concluded with actionable insights on stage presence, communication skills, and leadership development, leaving students inspired to apply these strategies in academics, presentations, and future professional settings.
